Building the Boat While Rowing
Håvard Legreid and I were tasked with bringing this idea to life in just two minutes.
The project was for NORCE Research and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), focusing on innovation in home care services.
We embraced their metaphor: the state as the shipping company, the municipality as the shipyard, and the employees as the crew—navigating a boat loaded with good intentions.
For a local touch, we found national romantic paintings from I.C. Dahl’s of the West Coast of Norway, with rugged seas and recognizable landscapes, no AI-generated backgrounds. Photographs supplemented concrete buildings and objects, and Håvard’s illustration style tied it all together with text, arrows, and figures, seamlessly integrated with my animation.
We started with whiteboard illustrations to show the full picture, accompanied by a voice-over script everyone agreed on.
The challenge is real: home care faces increasing demands, fewer staff, tight budgets, and multiple simultaneous projects. Yet the boat must stay on course and deliver every day.
Our goal was to make research tangible, a video that shows both the challenges and the driving force, while communicating that innovation is not a quick fix; it requires time, resources, and committed people.
The video is in Norwegian, and hope you can enjoy the visuals.
